Asbestos in Orlando's Older Building Stock
Orlando has a significant base of pre-1980 construction. The historic bungalows of Colonialtown and Lake Eola Heights, mid-century apartment buildings, and older commercial properties across Orange County were all built during an era when asbestos-containing materials were standard. Floor tiles, mastic adhesive, pipe insulation, HVAC duct wrap, roofing felt, and textured ceilings are among the most common materials we encounter in this building stock.
Those materials do not always present an immediate hazard. But once a renovation, water event, or deterioration disturbs them, the risk changes. That is why asbestos testing in Orlando is not simply about swabbing a surface.
